"We were stunned," said Tim Hockett, OlyCAP's Executive Director, describing the moment when the mail was opened and a check for $100,000 appeared. The accompanying letter from the Seattle Foundation explained that an anonymous donor had recommended the donation in support of OlyCAP's capital campaign. |
| "There are a lot of emotions that run through you when something like this happens," said Hockett. "You start out with elation and excitement, but when you get past those initial feelings, it is a very humbling experience to discover that someone in the community has the faith to make that kind of investment in OlyCAP. It makes everyone want to work that much harder on behalf of a community with such a generous spirit."
OlyCAP's capital campaign had a significant milestone earlier this year when it received a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grant for $200,000. Prior to the Seattle Foundation donation, OlyCAP had raised about $45,000 in donations and pledges with about $25,000 of that eligible for matching funds. The total purchase price of the buildings was $2.1 million funded by loans through First Federal Savings and loan, the USDA and a Washington State Community Services Facilities Grant.
OlyCAP moved from a facility on Seton Road into the present buildings in the Port Townsend Business Park to allow for expansion of services. Since the move, service to the community has increased by more than 50% as measured by the number of families served each year. |
